The opportunity

Our US Gas Operations – North Region Operations team is seeking an experienced, knowledgeable leader in Ohio to provide active leadership and ensure adherence to corporate policies, practices, and procedures.

Reporting to the Regional Director, the Area Operations Manager applies their knowledge around safety, field operations, project management and technical processes to ensure, in accordance with all TC Energy’s (TC) standards, policies, processes, procedures and practices, the continuous operation, maintenance, and improvement of their assigned area. Within their specified area, establishes and assures compliance with operation and maintenance policies, practices and procedures and supports the planning, administration, and control of capital, operating, and other budgets for their assigned area.

Job Responsibilities

Team/People Leadership

Lead, develop, mentor, coach, and support employees in the organization

Effectively perform leadership activities necessary for the effective performance of a competent, proactive, and engaged staff including employee safety, employee development, salary administration, budget administration, employee performance management, counseling and motivation, recognition & reward, employee objectives, and talent management

Set clear expectations and hold team accountable to meeting results; Driven through Goals and Development Process

Develop and foster an environment which actively enables and encourages employee innovation, continuous improvement, and commitment to operational excellence

Manage an inclusive and diverse work atmosphere of promoting open discussion, engagement and feedback, as well as communicate effectively

Build and lead high performing teams setting clear expectations and holding the team accountable to meeting results

Facilitate employee meetings and local teams to find answers, learn and grow

Expected to conduct field observations for Policy Adherence and Safety Observations

Checking and Assurance – Engaged to review of documents for critical activities. for oversight and to ask questions, while having an informed perspective on what else might be going on in the area, and what other work groups are planning

Complete self-audit on a regular basis on processes such as JSA, LOTO, Work Permits etc.(after the fact checking for evidence that things have been done correctly, but reactive tactics are also important to learn and improve)

Development – Leverages the work plan to observe and coach behaviors, following a predeveloped list of prompt questions to ask the technician about the hazards associated with the work they are performing, if there is a procedure to follow, how well the procedure works, what improvements we could make to the procedure, forms, Blueworx, etc.

May be asked to step-up and fill in for the Regional Director and/or Regional Manager, in whole or in part, during their absence

General Leadership

Communicate, implement, and advocate corporate messages and programs in the spirit of the organizational vision and values. Exemplifies the TC Energy values: Safety, Integrity, Innovation, Responsibility and Collaboration

Provide active field leadership to ensure corporate policies, practices, standards and procedures (including TOPs) are followed with the additional focus of leveraging best practices and consistency across the region

Continue to develop your leadership competencies, knowledge of company business, strategy, goals and objectives

Actively participate on the regional leadership team, assuming responsibilities as required

Works with the team to improve our ability to keep up with changing technology

Supports facility tours, audits and other site activity from third party contractors, customers, and stakeholders from and maintenance and reliability standpoint

Ensure TC Energy has a positive, visible image in communities within Area

Represent the Company and foster critical partnerships both internally and externally

Participate on external Industry committees/organizations as needed

Actively participate and contribute on internal committees/initiatives

Facilitate leadership meetings as needed

Compliance, Safety & Emergency Response

May serve as the Region’s Emergency Operation Manager (REOC) and responsible for managing the REOC team in the event of an emergency, conducting monthly exercises (back-up)

Drives and empowers safety culture across operating areas

Be a leader in Safety; Role model the Life Saving Rules (LSR) and adhere to the Life Saving Rules and all company procedures to ensure the safe operation of facilities, the protection of personnel, our environment, our customers and the people of the communities in which we do business

Support Safety Specialists and Joint Health, Safety, and Environment Committee (JHSEC) to ensure designated Area maintains a safe and healthy workforce, as well as shares and promotes best practices in the workplace

Participate in Mock Emergency Drills

Maintains all levels of ICS training 100/200/300 in order to act as the Incident Commander and manage the emergency response with a requirement to be on call and, to respond to emergency situations. Engage, Initiate REOC during emergency response

Supports Root Cause Failure Analysis

Supports USRC in preparing for and participating in Regulatory Compliance Audits

New Hires subject to a pre-employment physical, background check, and drug test

Job Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

Successful completion of an Associates, Bachelor’s Degree preferred; or diploma in a technical based field of study (Engineering, Business Management, or equivalent); An equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered in lieu of a degree

Minimum of 5 years of related experience, preferably in a management or leadership position; Energy industry experience, specifically in natural gas transmission/storage operations, is preferred

Ability to travel to work locations to meet operational needs

Approximately 40% travel

Demonstrated ability to influence, engage, and develop a team; prior team leadership or strong aptitude preferred

Possess thorough knowledge and understanding of TC Energy Operating Procedures (TOPS)

Demonstrated effective written & verbal communication skills and ability to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization; and knowing when and how to use appropriate platforms

Proficiency with Microsoft Office products (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, MS Teams, etc.)

Must be a leader in safety and have the ability to manage work in a safe and environmentally responsible manner

Must have a proven safe driving record and provide documentation of past traffic violations upon request, as well as possess and maintain a valid driver’s license

Highly motivated with interpersonal skills to effectively work in a collaborative team environment that includes shared responsibilities, establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with others, support team and company objectives

Requires an aptitude for attention to detail, accuracy, precision and logic

Demonstrated leadership and management skills with diverse work groups

Influence and motivate TC employees within and outside of the business unit, creating and sustaining critical partnerships

Be available for extended work hours or workdays as required based on operational and business requirements
