Position Summary
The Assistant Director of Parent, Family and New Student Connections is responsible for helping to cultivate lasting relationships with parents, families and community/campus partners that strengthen University ties throughout their student’s college experience and beyond. The Assistant Director helps to strengthens internal and external partnerships to support, engage and advocate for new students, parents and families. The Assistant Director will support student success, retention and graduation by increasing parent and families’ understanding and relationship with BGSU, which will also build a commitment that translates to student persistence, volunteerism, advocacy, career and financial support.
Essential Duties, Tasks and Responsibilities
Communication – will serve as lead for Parent, Family and New Student Connections digital presence, communications, and outreach initiatives. They will manage family communications including an online newsletter, volunteer monthly updates, emails, a full website, print media and social media initiatives.
Programming– They will provide support and oversee the logistics and coordination of signature offerings including family office hours, family webinar series and falcon family regional, state/international receptions held throughout the year. Events and programing including Move-In Weekend, Fall Welcome, Family Weekend, Sibs Day, Grandparents Day, Family Orientation.
Volunteering support – will oversee the efficient and effective implementation of family volunteer recruitment and engagement for campus and regional events including send offs, Move-In Weekend, Fall Welcome, Family Weekend, Sibs Day, Grandparents Day, Family Orientation and graduations. They will manage parent/family council recruitment as well as other family volunteer recruitment.
Supervision: serve as the primary supervisor for contracted graduate and undergraduate students, volunteer practicum graduate students, student office assistants, student interns, and orientation leaders. This includes recruiting, selecting, training, supervising and evaluating performance.
Assessment– They will lead ongoing assessments of programs, services and communications channels to provide analytics, reports and recommendations
Salary
Full-time, Administrative staff position available. Administrative Grade Level 354. Salary is commensurate with education and experience. Full benefit package available.

Job Requirements
Knowledge, Skills or Abilities
- Understanding of new student orientation, transitions, and parent and family engagement principles
- Collaborative work style
- Strong writing, interpersonal and organizational skills
- Crisis and family engagement communications experience
- Ensure family members are provided with reliable information about University policies and procedures
- BGSU community events, and other aspects of BGSU life that may affect their students.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree preferred. Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license and comply with the university’s vehicle use policy.
The following experience is required:
- 2 years of experience in higher education or k-12 setting, business setting/business communications or related field. Prefer experience working with parents and family members in an education related setting
