Job Summary

We are seeking an energetic and dynamic Bus Transportation Supervisor.

The Wood County Board of Developmental Disabilities (WCBDD) coordinates services for over 1,000 people with developmental disabilities in Wood County. Our mission is to support, empower, and inspire all people. The ideal candidate will be a highly self-motivated problem solver, who is a team player with time management and leadership skills. 

The Bus Transportation Supervisor is responsible for supervising, scheduling, and assigning work to Transportation Staff including Vehicle Operators, Vehicle Aides, and Substitutes.  

 

Job Responsibilities

  • Approves employee’s time cards and requested leave.
  • Performs new employee orientation and ongoing training.
  • Is responsible for recruitment and selection of new employees.
  • Is responsible for performance evaluations for Vehicle Operators, Vehicle Aides, and Substitutes as well as for disciplinary actions for current employees (subject to the approval of the Health and Safety Coordinator).
  • Provide work direction, training, and supervision as directed and as necessary to ensure employee and department success.
  • Assist in the development of trainings and other professional development opportunities for department employees.
  • Assist the Health & Safety Coordinator in the implementation of the organization’s Mission, Vision and Values and with the philosophy and mission of the Health and Safety Department.
  • Plan, manage, and implement Transportation services, including bus routing and dispatching.
  • Must possess or be able to obtain a CDL Class B (school bus, and passenger endorsements) and School Bus Driver Certification.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of Health and Safety Department procedures, including safe transportation operations, vehicle safety and proper equipment upkeep.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of the capital plan (vehicles).
  • Assist in the development of vehicle specifications for public bidding.
  • Schedules and coordinates bus evacuation drills conducted three times annually.
  • Is responsible for all program, state, federal laws, and safety regulations relevant to School Bus transportation and compliance with these standards.
  • Plan, manage and implement the bus transportation service using ParaPlan routing software.
  • Utilizes ParaPlan to maintain attendance records, passenger manifest, and produce reports as needed.
  • Maintain passenger documentation, including emergency information and individual service needs.
  • Responsible for distributing passenger information to bus staff.
  • May perform Vehicle Operator or Vehicle Aide duties if need occurs.
  • Will operate a vehicle in a safe and lawful manner while transporting consumers and/or performing work related duties.
  • Compile, cross reference, gather, and organize data.
  • Responsible for data submission as required by the Ohio Department of Education, including semi-annual BMV driving record review, T-1 and T-2 data reporting, bus driver physical exam data and online training documentation.
  • Facilitates General Orientation Transportation Training class.
  • Completes training documentation and submits to Human Resources.
  • Generate work orders for the Vehicle Maintenance staff.
  • Enter work order data (work performed, labor hours), and close completed work orders.
  • Recommends vehicle maintenance/repairs, and assists in purchase of adaptive vehicle seats, belts, etc.
  • Develop and maintain a system for scheduling vehicle usage and maintenance.
  • Reviews and distributes Unusual Incident Reports generated by the Transportation Department.
  • Assists Health and Safety Coordinator with weather delays and cancellations or other emergency situations.
  • Utilizes the School Messenger System to announce delays/closings.
  • Contacts television and radio broadcasters to announce delays/closings.
  • Perform routine administrative and clerical tasks for the Health and Safety Coordinator (e.g. prepare reports, schedule appointments and meetings, maintain files).
  • Generate Purchase Orders, process invoices, and pay applications for Maintenance, Custodial, and Transportation Departments.
  • Place supply orders as needed.
  • Serves as the County Board’s primary point of contact for Cell Phone equipment, including coordinating repairs, phone replacements, and upgrades.
  • Serves as the point of contact for the Propane Fuel Station and generates reports as needed.
  • Serves as Board representative for the County Fuel Station, including preparing and distributing monthly reports.
  • Maintain fleet vehicle records including titles, license plates/registrations, and handicap parking placards.
  • Maintain Vehicle Inventory list.
  • Collaborate, consult and maintain effective communication with agency staff in all departments.
  • Implementation of strategic plan goals and objectives.
  • Development of department reports.

Conditions of Employment

  1. Must be 21 years old.
  2. Successful completion of general orientation.
  3. Receipt of seven acceptable background required by ORC 3319.39 & OAC 5123:2-2-02.
  4. Must obtain and maintain any training, licenses, registration, or certification mandated by the Board and the State of Ohio.
  5. Must have a medical examination and a one-step PPD test to determine fitness for duty prior to providing direct care service or within 30 days of employment whichever comes first.
  6. Possess/maintain an acceptable motor vehicle record (if required for position) per board guidelines. NOTE: Use of personal vehicle for transporting individuals requires proof of liability insurance.
  7. Receipt of acceptable criminal background report from Bureau of Criminal Identification (BCI) and county sheriff ‘s office of permanent address before starting position as required by 3319.39 and/or OAC 5123.081.

Minimum Qualifications

Education/Experience Requirements

Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.

Must be at least 21 years old.

Must have 5 years verifiable driving experience.

Must have two (2) years of demonstrated leadership in a transportation related position. 

Must have knowledge of Ohio driving rules and regulations. 

Clerical experience preferred. 

Two (2) years related experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities, preferred.

Must possess or obtain and maintain an Ohio CDL operator’s license endorsed with both School Bus and Passenger for the purpose of transporting enrollees and/or operation of a Board Owned School Bus. 

Must possess or obtain and maintain an Ohio Pre-service Training certificate (OAC 3301-83-10). 

Must have knowledge of State, Federal, and local rules and regulations. 

Employee must submit to a semi-annual driver abstract record through the ODE SFPS system.

Minimum Qualification Standards:

Must be able to move individuals who are receiving services including adults and children in a safe manner. Must be able to lift, carry and move office supplies, materials, and equipment required for day-to-day operations.

 If required by the position you must maintain a current driver’s license in your residing state for the purpose of transporting individuals who are receiving services and/or operation of a Board owned vehicle.
