Job Description


The purpose of the Armes Family Cancer Care Center RN Financial Advocate is to assist in addressing the financial needs of the diverse patient population served at The Armes Family Cancer Care Center. The RN Financial Advocate is to identify and help reduce patient financial burden through the utilization of pharmaceutical and hospital assistance programs, as well as national and local resources. Additionally, through the evaluation and monitoring of the oncology office’s self-administered psychosocial distress screening tool, this position is able to identify and intervene in financial barriers on behalf of the patient and caregiver. He/she will serve as a liaison throughout the facility and in the community regarding services provided for this unique patient population.


Duty 1: Work with all patients at The Armes Family Cancer Care Center to insure maximum utilization of available financial coverage/ funding sources for patients including, but not limited to, Medicaid, Medicare, HCAP, Affordable Health Care Act, and pharmaceutical drug assistance programs.

Duty 2: Conducts insurance verification via phone, fax and online methods for Cancer Center services and responds to patient and family questions and concerns regarding insurance benefits.

Duty 3: Works with patient financial services to inform patient of payment options and identifies potential for bad debt. Provides patient with an estimated cost of services when possible

Duty 4: Applies “financial awards” payments to patient accounts from pharmaceutical company programs utilizing data online or BV Cashiers office

Duty 5: Establishes and maintains communication/ collaboration with the interdisciplinary team at The Armes Family Cancer Care Center regarding patient financial needs, and other anticipated needs to ensure exceptional patient care.

Duty 6: Acts as a liaison between the facility and patient/ family to resolve problems and address complaints. Has strong focus and commitment to Service Excellence as evidenced by practicing the mission, vision, and values of the organization to promote patient satisfaction.

Duty 7: Advocates on behalf of the oncology community by participating in various committees and meetings for the purpose of improving patient care and outcomes.

Duty 8: Establishes regular communication with the oncology patient population which will be performed throughout the patient’s treatment plan. Nurse serves as a clinical and financial resource/consultant to physician practices to optimize communication and effective utilization of needed oncology resources.

Duty 9: Identifies and prioritizes patient caseload using data from new patient referrals.

Duty 10: Evaluates patient access to needed services and coordinates access to the care continuum and community resources. Appropriately refers patients with physician approval to appropriate resources for education, services, and resolution of care issues of the patient.

Duty 11: Functions in an organized and time conscious manner. The navigator partners with patients, families, the interdisciplinary team, and community resources to provide well-coordinated, timely, compassionate, care. The Navigator communicates with all members of the healthcare team, as appropriate about patient/family needs and concerns. Acts as a member of the Oncology Care Navigation team and may cross train in certain aspects of oncology care navigation as needed.
