Job Description

Coordinator of Student Accessibility Services

Reporting to the Executive Director of the Owen Center for Teaching and Learning, the Coordinator of Student Accessibility Services serves as the main service provider for students with disabilities, coordinates the delivery of accommodations, and is the resource to the campus community on disability and accessibility related issues.  This position is responsible for the development and implementation of policies and procedures to ensure equal access for students with disabilities in compliance with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act and ADA Laws.

The Coordinator of Student Accessibility Services may supervise interns. 




  • Determine student eligibility for services based on documentation regarding academic, classroom, housing, dining, and campus life accommodations. Conduct intake interviews, advise, and orient students on accessing appropriate support services.
  • Plan and facilitate implementation of accommodations, auxiliary aids, and support services for students who experience disabling conditions
  • Work collaboratively with Owen Center staff and other campus offices to inform and enhance student learning.
  • Establish and maintain clear guidelines for students qualifying for assistance and service animals in accordance with state and federal law.
  • Support students in resolving disability and accessibility related issues that may be a barrier to academic success; refer students to appropriate campus and community resources.
  • Provide screening and referral for students with learning difficulties or disabilities to receive counseling, evaluations, or other services as needed
  • Oversee testing services for students with disabilities, including scheduling appointments, collecting confidential tests from instructors, proctoring tests, and monitoring the testing center 
  • Inform faculty of academic accommodations, compliance with legal responsibilities, as well as instructional, programmatic or curriculum modifications
  • Provide training to faculty/staff on developing accessible learning environments. Provide resources, information and advice for faculty working with students with disabilities in order to assist with assessment, curriculum development, and the adoption of Universal Design principles.
  • Interpret and ensure compliance with local, state, and federal laws as they apply to disability and postsecondary educational environments. 
  • Assess the effectiveness of disability program services and activities. Develop and revise policies and procedures as appropriate.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned; duties, responsibilities, and activities may change at any time with or without notice. Occasional night and/or evening hours required to meet requirements of the position.
  • Coordinate Disabilities Support Team as they determine reasonable accommodations, educate the community about disability and accessibility, and work to support students, faculty, and staff.

Job Requirements

  • Masters degree in counseling, rehabilitation counseling, special education or related field.
Preferred Experience
  • Masters Degree in Education, Psychology, Counseling, Disability in Higher Education, Social Work, or related field preferred.
  • Experience working with students with disabilities in higher education.
  • Minimum 2-4 years of experience working with students with disabilities in an educational setting.
Supplemental Information

Necessary Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: 

  • Experience in assessing, implementing, and overseeing accommodation plans in an educational setting in accordance with applicable laws, regulations, and guidelines.
  • Ability to provide direct service as well as coordinate services with campus constituents and community agencies
  • Knowledge of applicable laws and regulations; medical, mental health, learning disabilities, their functional limitations and appropriate accommodations; professional resources, including industry best practices
  • Experience with adaptive software and assistive technology
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and demonstrated problem-solving and dispute resolution including effective mediation skills
  • Strong organizational skills and expertise in planning, implementing, and evaluating student service/accommodation program in an academic environment
  • Ability to work both independently as well as cooperatively in a team setting. 
  • Exceptional self-motivation, integrity, and creativity. 
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and adhere to strict deadlines. 
  • Ability to interact professionally, effectively, and in collaboration with faculty, staff, students, and alumni.
