Job Description

PURPOSE OF THIS POSITION

The Director of IT Applications & Innovation is responsible for the development and implementation of information technology applications (clinical, business, etc…) as well as providing analysis and programming activities to improve business processes. Standard managerial responsibilities include managing staff, budgeting, reporting and providing overall direction and guidance. Establishing benchmarks and assuring these goals are met within the IT department is another aspect of this position.

JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

Duty 1: Staff Management – Collaborates with CIO to ensure appropriate IT staff via effective recruitment, retention and development

Duty 2: Strategy & Planning – Collaborates with CIO and IT Leadership on emerging technology opportunities and disruptive expectations. Develops strategy to manage opportunity and minimize risks. Understands current environment and integration opportunities, including assisting in preparing a roadmap for strategic plan, emerging technology and integration opportunities.

Duty 3: Strategy & Planning – Partners with business or clinical leaders to analyze, develop, and identify IT needs for existing and future planned initiatives; determines scope and priorities for these initiatives and provides guidance to customers on IT governance processes. Participates in the development and implementation of the Strategic IT Plan, projecting resource requirements, costs and project planning. Develops and communicates roadmap and expectations on meeting the strategic initiatives acting as an advocate, mentor and change agent with the team to build consensus.

Duty 4: Acquisition & Deployment – Stays current on industry trends and regulatory changes. Researches emerging technology and analyzes the organizational opportunity and risk mitigation requirements. Understands and educates BVHS leaders on the impact of Cerner’s development cycle on the BVHS strategic plan. Maintains roadmaps of anticipated organizational needs, IT advancements, regulatory requirements and solution/feature availability. Utilizes this information to assist various directors in understanding how technology will impact their areas and needs.

Duty 5: Acquisition & Deployment – Oversees the development of detailed project schedules and manages the project budget, assessments, and service level agreements. Assists project managers on understanding and managing action items, risks/issues and all project deliverables. Facilitating project meetings and generating agendas/minutes. Driving projects through all deployment phases while reviewing project performance, and effect changes as needed to improve business processes and support critical business strategies.

Duty 6: Operational Management – Establishes policies, procedures, standards and objectives for applications management with the rest of the IS leadership team. Ensures that the system portfolio list is kept updated and relevant with impact analysis on each change, including version, upgrades, system capacity, hardware requirements, additional features/functionality and required resources. Maintains documentation of all current integration points (hardware/software) that would be impacted by changes to any of the systems

Duty 7: Operational Management – Collaborates with IS team to develop integration and interoperability opportunities and strategy. Job Requirements

A strong knowledge of IT, applications and project management is essential. Since identifying the organization’s needs is a major part of this role, a thorough understanding of and over five years prior experience working in a healthcare or hospital environment is required, with at least three years in a leadership position.
