Job Description

Sisters in Shelter is currently searching for an Executive Director to direct its operations and services.

Sisters in Shelter (SIS) is a nonprofit organization located in downtown Tiffin, Ohio, that offers a wide array of services to human trafficking and domestic violence survivors. SIS also strives to educate the community on these issues and the need to address them. SIS operates a safe house and offers assistance and emotional support to its clients.


  • Provides oversight of daily operations of Sisters in Shelter. Performs all administrative tasks and ensures all expectations for a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization.
  • Build an effective team of leaders.
  • Oversees all client progress and assists the Case Manager in guiding the clients programming and success.


  1. General
  • Upholds and fulfills the mission and philosophy of Sisters in Shelter in all areas of communication and public relations, whether written, spoken, or observed.
  • Promotes active and broad participation by volunteers in all areas of the organization’s work, as well as solicits volunteers for the organization.
  • Maintains a working knowledge of significant developments and trends in the field.
  • Coordinates with the director of Hope’s Landing, a related nonprofit entity and nonprofit program that provides work for SIS clients.
  1. Works with Board on governance
  • Sees that the Board is kept fully informed on the status of the organization and assures that the organization has a long-range.
  • Provides leadership in developing programs, organizational and financial plans with the Board of Trustees (and staff) and carries out plans and policies authorized by the Board.
  1. Marketing/Public Relations
  • Along with the Community Outreach Advisor, establishes sound working relationships and cooperative arrangements with community groups and organizations and is an active member of the local community.
  • Helps plan community events to publicize SIS and conducts its annual meeting.
  • Maintains awareness and connections with organizations that interact with Sisters in Shelter. (i.e., FBI, local law enforcement, state and federal agencies, social service agencies working with issues related to Human Trafficking)
  1. Financial Performance and Viability
  • Works with the staff and the Board of Trustees in preparing a budget.
  • Identifies and communicates with and offers opportunities for donor partners.
  • Responsible for overseeing writing of grants, accounting for disbursement of grant funds and contract management.



Regularly scheduled hours, with some evenings and weekends required to meet the needs of the organization, which could, at times, result in some flexibility on daytime hours.



The Director is directly accountable to the Board of Trustees of Sisters in Shelter.

Job Requirements


  • Bachelor’s Degree required.
  • Understanding of nonprofit organizational structure and best practices in working with nonprofit boards.
  • Cooperative, diplomatic, and ability to relate to all types of individuals.
  • Organized; able to manage multiple priorities; able to work without direct supervision.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, ability to use Office.
  • Must be able to drive personal vehicle to various locations within Northwest Ohio. Valid driver’s license that meets insurance requirements.

Willingness to, and ability to learn about:

  • Completion of the Human Trafficking 101 classes of SIS.
  • Criminal justice system and laws pertaining to human trafficking and domestic violence.
  • Victim assistance, social services.
  • Crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques.
  • Fighting human trafficking or a related social justice/human rights issues.
