Job Description

RESPONSIBILITIES The Park Maintenance Technician is responsible for maintaining grounds, facilities, buildings, vehicles, and equipment; planning, recommending, and implementing park improvement projects, and working independently or with full-time, part-time, and seasonal park operations staff and volunteers.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES 1. Work with permanent, seasonal, and temporary staff and volunteers when assisting with park maintenance projects. 2. Assign, monitor, and supervise work as required. 3. Operate and maintain equipment in a safe operating condition, make repairs, and keep reports as required. 4. Report problems, concerns, and needs to area manager. 5. Perform building and facility maintenance activities as assigned (e.g. conduct routine building and facility inspections, including mechanical systems such as electrical, heating, ventilating, plumbing, and safety features, correct safety issues and make miscellaneous repairs and improvements and coordinate installations, perform carpentry related duties and tasks, clean rental facilities and restrooms prior to and following rentals, programs, and special events, and perform janitorial duties and tasks, such as sweeping, mopping, dusting, cleaning windows, cleaning restrooms, and removing trash, etc.). 6. Perform vehicle and equipment maintenance activities as assigned (e.g. conduct monthly safety inspections, keep supplies in stock, schedule maintenance, oil changes, and lube; develop and implement the service schedule to ensure that vehicles and equipment are in good working order) and operate equipment ranging from heavy equipment to hand tools. 7. Perform landscaping tasks and other horticulture-related work. 8. Mow grass, conduct inspections, initiate repairs and improvements as assigned (e.g. buildings, trails, trees, facilities, and site amenities, etc.). 9. Manage building and repair projects as assigned (e.g. design, make material list, estimate projects, coordinate details, and build) and assess and coordinate the best way to make repairs and improvements in general. 10. Assemble, remove and replace, and maintain signs as directed. 11. Maintain parking areas, trails, and woodlots as assigned (e.g. clear debris from lots and trails, remove snow and ice from parking areas, sidewalks, and trails as required, and resurface trails as needed; prune, remove, and plant trees, etc.). 12. Enforce park regulations (e.g. inform and educate). 13. Support the use of rental facilities as required (e.g. provide customer service and coordinate details with the main office). 14. Support the efficient and effective operation of programs, activities, special events, and services as needed. 15. Prepare plans, progress reports, and other documentation related to assignments as required. Essential duties are not to be construed as all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.

Job Requirements

REQUIREMENTS Two years of relevant experience in the area of horticulture, construction, and hands-on maintenance of grounds, buildings, and facilities preferred. Any combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities will be considered. Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office software applications preferred. Communicate in a clear and professional manner both orally and in writing. Demonstrate high professional standards, a progressive park management mindset, and the willingness to accept new challenges, technologies, and opportunities.
