Job Description

The University of Findlay (www.findlay.eduis seeking a full-time Senior Director of Advancement provides leadership in support of raising the profile, awareness, and fundraising for the arts and sciences at University of Findlay.  This is inclusive of the Mazza Museum and its Conda STEAM Center.  The Senior Director also oversees planned giving for the university, including gifts-in-kind, trusts, real estate, life income-producing charitable vehicles as well as any form of bequests.

 

The director is responsible for securing and documenting bequests and deferred gifts from a portfolio of qualified prospects. The Director will develop an annual plan to qualify, cultivate, solicit and steward alumni, parents and friends for planned and major gifts to support priority funding needs of the university.  While working independently, s/he will work collaboratively with Advancement team members and volunteers to ensure all potential planned giving prospects are contacted, cultivated, and appropriately solicited. The Director will work closely to ensure that donors are thanked appropriately, and with the Business Office to ensure all instruments are understood and approved.  The Director will work in a transparent fashion to keep organizational stakeholders well versed on the progress of the planned giving program. The Director must be comfortable working in a goal-oriented and metric driven environment.

Job Requirements

A bachelor’s degree is required, graduate degree is preferred, with five or more years of fundraising experience, preferably in a higher education setting or a field applicable to the essential functions listed above, with experience in planned giving preferred. The candidate must possess experience in recruiting, training, managing and recognizing fund raising volunteers is a plus; knowledge of estate planning vehicles including wills, bequests, and trusts; strong interpersonal abilities including: diplomacy, tact, flexibility, discretion, sense of humor and the ability to maintain confidentiality inside and outside of the University; persuasive presentation, telephone, written and interpersonal communication skills; organizational skills including positive attitude, entrepreneurial approach to work, the ability to project strong leadership, creative problem solving skills, and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously; computer literacy, including familiarity with the internet, word processing, spreadsheet, and database software programs; and ability to design and implement special events that can have a strategic impact on fund raising.

 

A valid US Drivers’ license with a safe driving record is required.  Some evening and weekend work, and some overnight travel are expectations of this position.
