Job Description

Wyandot County CHIP Inspector

Job Responsibilities:
– Minimum of 24 hours per week on a contract basis
– Minimum of 8 hours a week in the office setting and 16 hours in the field
– Contract based on a $20.00 to $30.00/hr rate of pay (commensurate to experience) for hours worked
– Performs necessary tasks related to certifying a client’s premises to verify that it meets the requirements of the HUD rules for the performance of a CHIP grant project 
– Coordinates with the CHIP Administrator through the course of the project

Illustrative Duties:
– Performs the initial inspection for write-up project
– Directs onsite interior and exterior inspections of single-family dwellings, determines scope of work, and assures all inspections are scheduled and performed in a timely manner
– Conducts and coordinates meetings with contractors and homeowners
– Perform the bid tours with contractors
– Explains to the contractor the necessary work to be performed 
– Deliver necessary paperwork to and get signatures from contractors and homeowners
– Monitor contractor’s work on the home for compliance with write-up
– Submit paperwork and project finals in a timely manner

Knowledge Of:
– Communication skills to effectively communicate in oral and written form
– Develop and maintain effective working relationships with associates, Commissioners, Clerk/Administrator and general public
– Record data accurately
– English word usage, grammar, spelling, and punctuation
– Basic math skills
– Exercise sound judgement
– Maintain records in numerical, alphabetical or subject order
– Be trained on RRP Rules
– Basic contracting expertise in construction, plumbing, electrical, and roofing

– Ability to accurately work on a computer and fill out paperwork
– Ability to type on a computer
– Ability to climb a ladder, use tools, and place yourself in any part of a job to be performed
– Ability to use all manner of construction tools

– Any needed tools
– Workers Compensation Certification
– Lead Inspector Certification

Job Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:
– Must have graduated high school
– Two years of experience inspecting housing units for compliance with housing standards is required
– Inspector must possess a certificate as a LEAD Inspector/Risk Assessor through the State of Ohio within six months of starting in the role and receive continued training to renew the certificate on an as-needed basis (paid by Wyandot County)
